Srinagar (Summer capital)

Srinagar is the summer capital of the Indian 

It is situated in the Kashmir Valley and lies on the banks of the Jhelum River

The city has become safer to travel since 2003, however the streets are still lined with armed soldiers. 

Srinagar also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dry fruits.

Srinagar literally meaning 'the city of wealth & abundance' in Sanskrit, was founded around 150 AD by King Pravarasen II.

Situated on the banks of the river Jhelum, Srinagar is surrounded by beautiful lakes like Dal, Nagin and Anchar, whose glittering waters reflecting the rays of the sun is a sight to behold.

Not only known for its beauty, Srinagar also has a special place in the history of ancient India.

Flowers of the world famous saffron are displayed during harvest season in Pampore, Kashmir.

Tourists are not targeted in the violence but the city has spent much of the summer locked down in curfews and strikes.
