Harry Potter magic at Lacock

Lacock has featured in several of the Harry Potter movies. Mostly it is Lacock Abbey that features as Hogwarts.

Lacock, which was founded in 1232 is the setting for a number of the scenes in the 'Philosophers Stone' and 'The Chamber of Secrets'

A visit to the village is akin to taking a step back in time, owned and managed by the National Trust, it has been beautifully preserved and unchanged since it was a thriving township that traded in wool.

It is an extremely picturesque village with four streets laid out around a square

there are no telephone poles or electric streetlights, and it’s kept largely free of traffic thanks to the main visitor car park on the outskirts of the village.

Quality accommodation and atmospheric eating places make Lacock an ideal base to spend a few days exploring the local area.

The cloisters and carefully planted gardens and parkland are among the highlights at Lacock Abbey, and a visit is highly recommended.

Although there were only a small community of nuns there were considerable numbers involved in the administration, support and running of the Abbey and its estate.

Lacock village is well worth visiting but does become very crowded in peak visitor months so you should try and avoid those times.

You could be forgiven for thinking that it is a fossilised village frozen in time but you could not be further form the truth. It is very much a living working community.
