Do you want to visit Tunisia? Here is the top of the 16 most beautiful places to visit in Tunisia
01. Carthage
Carthage is Tunis’ most exclusive residential suburb and retains a sense of historical importance forged over millennia – as well as being home to the Unesco-listed Carthage Archaeological Park, it's the location of both the president’s palace and the massive Mosque Malik Ibn Anas Carthage on Boulevard de l'Environnement.
02. Djerba
Though a small island, Djerba contains the ingredients of many people’s idea of the ideal holiday vacation: soft, sandy beaches, warm Mediterranean waters, loads of activities, and an array of shops selling a good range of local handicrafts. It also sports a maze of cobblestone streets and a history of ethnic and religious diversity more pronounced than in the rest of the country.
03. Dougga
Arguably the most magnificent Roman site in Africa, Dougga’s ancient remains – a Unesco World Heritage site since 1997 – are startlingly complete, giving a beguiling glimpse of how well-heeled Romans lived, flitting between bathhouses, the imposing Capitole, a 3500-seat theatre and various temples.
04. El Jem Amphitheater
This Unesco World Heritage–listed colosseum was the second-largest in the Roman world (after Rome's); it was 149m long by 124m wide, with three tiers of seating 30m high. Its seating capacity has been estimated at up to 35,000 – considerably more than the population of the town itself.
05. Hammamet
Stretched out across Cap Bon's southeastern coast like a lazy sunbather, laid-back Hammamet ("the baths" in Arabic) is Tunisia's original resort town. Early planning constraints dictated that hotels should not overreach the height of a tree, meaning that Hammamet's buildings sprawl horizontally, a far cry from the brutal high-rise developments that have scarred so many other Mediterranean coasts.
06. Ksar-Ghilane
Located in southern Tunisia on the edge of the Grand Erg Oriental, Ksar Ghilane is a small oasis and a natural gateway to one of the Sahara Desert's most impressive dune seas. This is the Sahara of your dreams, where extraordinary, biscuit-colored sand dunes stretch as far as the eye can see. Visitors flock to Ksar Ghilane to explore the desert on camel or horseback, or to spend the night in one of the oasis' Bedouin camps. A natural hot spring provides a place to wash away the sand at the end of the day and the Roman fort of Tisavar is located nearby.
07. Lagune de Korba
lagoon The Korba is, again, a magnificent place not to be missed if you wish to visit Tunisia. Located in the northeast of the country, it extends all along the eastern coast of the Cap-Bon peninsula. Ideal for nature lovers, you can observe pink flamingos and ducks in peace. Tunisians are used to taking great care of this privileged space by regularly organizing cleaning operations. The fauna and flora are very precious there.
08. Matmata
If you’re touring the beautiful desert landscape of Tunisia’s south, you’ll likely travel through Matmata, a small town that’s made its way into the hearts of travelers for decades because of its other-worldly underground homes. The troglodyte homes (troglodyte meaning cave-dwellers) were made famous in Star Wars when George Lucas used one as Luke Skywalker’s childhood home.
09. Medina of Sousse
The Sousse Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site full of rich history and cultural significance. It’s easy to access whether you’re on a beach holiday in Sousse or exploring Tunisia on a country-wide tour. Located in the Tunisian Sahel, the Medina of Sousse constitutes a harmonious archaeological complex that reflects Arabo-Muslim urbanism applied to a coastal town exposed through its history to piracy and dangers from the sea.
10. Ichkeul National Park
In 1980 the lake and mountain of Ichkeul were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, then converted into a national park covering an area of 12 600 hectares. It is a remarkable destination for wildlife. The vast body of water is the last trace of a chain of freshwater lakes that once stretched across North Africa.
11. Jbil National Park
Saharan park forming part of the large tectonic zone, it is located in the natural regions of Nefzaoua and the Grand Erg Oriental , about 70 km from Douz. Jbil Park is also a strategic area for bird conservation. It is home to a relatively developed fauna and flora despite a very difficult climate. Browse its different areas such as dunes, mountain ranges, or even regs in 4X4. You may meet a fennec or a pretty gazelle!
12. Ribat of Monastir
With its golden beaches and sapphire blue sea, its medieval monuments and its charming marina, Monastir offers one of the most attractive faces of Tunisia. An ideal destination to sun yourself by the sea, but also to visit a fascinating region: from Sousse to Kairouan, from El Jem to Mahdia, you will travel through time. In the countryside, you will get to know the way of life of the Bedouin villages. And along the coast, the fishing ports will enchant you.
13. Sidney Bou Said
Sidi Bou Said is a pretty town on the coast of Tunisia which is located about 20 km from the city of Tunis, the capital of the country. In it, all the houses are painted in blue and white. Located just north of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, is the town of Sidi Bou Said. The entire town is located on top of a steep cliff, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The view from Sidi Bou Said is absolutely phenomenal, and will continue to amaze you throughout your entire trip.
14. Tozeur
With its otherworldly desert atmosphere, Tozeur has served as a filming location for blockbuster movies such as "Star Wars," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and "The English Patient."
